JAZZ ENSEMBLES

Halley provides several types of jazz ensembles for concert and dance settings. She brings together some of the finest musicians in the DC area to present joyful events. Performing at indoor and outdoor venues in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia for crowds of 30 to 500 or more audience members, Halley plays a variety of jazz styles ranging from Traditional Jazz and Swing to Modern, Funk, Blues, Standards and her Original compositions. Halley's groups are also available for performances outside the DC area.

Halley Shoenberg Jazz Quartet, Trio or Duo performs classic American Songbook tunes, Jazz, Bossa Nova and Swing made famous by Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and more. This type of performance is great as featured music at concerts and restaurants or as background music at receptions.

Halley's Hot Gumbo Swingtet performs lively Traditional New Orleans Jazz and Swing. This group has performed for Great Gatsby parties, dances at Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom and for the Potomac River Jazz Club with 6 instrumentalists (several also sing) - three in the horn section and three in the rhythm section - but it could be larger or smaller depending on the event. Halley's Hot Gumbo Swingtet performs at Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom for dancing.

Halley Shoenberg's Revival Jazz Band is Halley's newest group and the band has performed for Roaring 20's and Jazz Age dances at Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom. The band last played there October 12, 2019, hosted by Marc and Ellen of Flying Feet Enterprises. The 11 to 14-piece Jazz Age ensemble is made up of some of the finest Washington, DC area musicians. For nine years Halley played Glen Echo Sunday tea dances with the La Salle Dance Orchestra, which focused on 1920's and 30's ballroom dance music. Halley acquired the music from that band to perform with her own band. She also learned to dance the dances such as Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, Salsa and Tango and likes to dance during band breaks or go out for an evening of dancing to other bands. Come out - hear and dance for yourself!

The Original Halley Jazz performs Captivating concert jazz featuring some of Halley's original compositions and original arrangements of jazz standards covering more than 100 years of jazz styles. This can be a group of 4-8 players. The Halley Shoenberg Jazz Quintet performed at the Mansion at Strathmore, North Bethesda, MD. The Halley Shoenberg Jazz Octet recorded live video for an Arlington, VA public television program. Here is Halley's original song "Watching Clouds" performed by the Halley Shoenberg Jazz Octet.
